REGULAR TYRE CHECKUP

At Autofix Mechanical Repairs, as part of our 65 Point Vehicle Inspection report which comes free with every car service, we will inspect and determine if the thread on each tyre is at least 1.6mm deep across the central three quarters of the thread width going around the complete circumference of the tyre. Then we will make sure that your tyres are correctly fitted to each axle, ensuring they are the same size, type and structure. We will also inspect if there are any serious cuts or bulges on the tyres and advise you if there is any immediate safety concerns, or if you might expect the need for new tyres in the near future.

There are things you can do yourself to help maintain your tyres:

You should always be aware what condition your tyres are in and when they are due for next replacement or if they need repairs. A regular visual inspection of your tyres' tread will let you know if they are wearing unevenly or are starting to lose too much tread which can help you avoid dangerous situations, or even signal that a wheel alignment could be needed to help extend the life of your tyres.

Its also important to check the inflation on your tyres on a regular basis - we recomend at least monthly.

Quite a large number of tyres have to be replaced early due to use while under-inflated, which causes premature wear and breakage. Maintaining correct tyre pressure is not only important for your driving safety  - it also improves fuel consumption, which is a great extra, considering constantly rising fuel prices.

Always keep the tyre caps on your valves well fastened. The purpose of those little black caps is to keep the air inside the tyres under pressure - and also keep dirt and moisture out. Even a little foreign body on the valve could cause leaks and undesired tyre pressure.
